Consultation and Assistance

The purpose of the initial consultation is to assess the district’s readiness in implementing the MAAX program. Information gleaned in the initial consultation will be used to clarify the training needs for implementation of the MAAX program.

Identify grade level(s) that will be targeted & number of students served
Key personnel (e.g., identifying individuals who will deliver the program)

Training and Products

This training is designed for project directors and staff responsible for delivering the MAAX program. An overview of the theoretical frameworks, curriculum content and strategies for engaging middle school youth are reviewed in depth. A curriculum assessment has been designed to assess student gains in content knowledge along school and social domains. The training includes
a full review of the protocol, administration guidelines, and scoring of the assessment. Finally, a student satisfaction survey is also included to assist program directors in gauging how students felt about their experience in the MAAX program. This survey instrument can be adapted for use with program facilitators, and school personnel involved in the implementation of the MAAX.

Program Evaluation

Program Monitoring. We provide consultation on the tracking of student attendance and direct service delivery hours that facilitates program reporting.

Process Evaluation. For project directors interested in evaluating program integrity or fidelity, we offer training on how to utilize instruments we developed that are designed to measure program adherence and competence.

Outcome Evaluation. We have also designed an outcome evaluation that includes a research protocol that consists of instruments that gauge academic identification, educational engagements, perceived social support, educational aspirations, self-efficacy in academics, school relevance, behavioral engagement in academics and student engagement in health risk behaviors (e.g., substance use).
